Nature

The area of jurisdiction of the Yuzawa Sabo Works Office covers five cities and four towns in Niigata Prefecture and one town and three villages in Nagano Prefecture. The area is rich in nature, the outlook of which distinctively changes from one season to another, and incorporates a series of magnificent mountains, such as Mt. Komagadake, Mt. Tanigawadake and Mt. Naeba in the Echigo-Sanzan Tadami Quasi-National Park and the Joshin'etsu Kogen Quasi-National Park. This beautiful nature is further glorified by the presence of rare flora and fauna, among which are 131 species of 37 bird families and 50 species of mammals.
The area is also one of the world's highest snowfall areas. It is not unusual for the mean annual snow depth to exceed 300 cm even though the actual snow depth differs between mountainous areas and lowland.
