Outline of Office

 The Hokuriku Regional Development Construction Bureau has jurisdiction over the entire Niigata, Toyama and Ishikawa Prefectures and part of Yamagata, Fukushima, Nagano, Gifu and Fukui Prefectures and conducts diverse works related to rivers, roads, sabo, dams, coasts and harbors.
 The Yuzawa Sabo Office is one of 29 offices controlled by the Hokuriku Regional Development Bureau and conducts sabo-related surveys and construction work at Uono River, Kiyotsu River and Nakatsu River, etc. under the "National Sabo Project in the Lower Reaches of Shinano River".
 The total drainage area under its jurisdiction is approximately 2,200 km2, mainly consisting of the Uonuma area in Niigata Prefecture and part of Nagano Prefecture. Thirteen municipalities are involved in this area which is the largest area directly controlled by any sabo of the Ministry of Land,Infrastructure and Transport in Japan.
 The Office was originally established as the Uono River Sabo Office of the Niigata Civil Engineering Works Branch, former Ministry of Internal Affairs in Muikamachi, South Uonuma District to facilitate the sabo works of the Ministry of Construction in the upper reaches of Uono River and for Tagawa River, a left bank tributary in the lower reaches of Uono River, in 1937 after a great disaster in the Uonuma area caused by a violent storm on 25th September, 1935.

1937 The Uono River Sabo Office of the Niigata Civil Engineering Works Branch, Ministry of Internal Affairs was established to commence sabo works of the Ministry of Construction in the upper reaches of Uono River and for Tagawa River, a left bank tributary, and other rivers in the lower reaches of Uono River.
1945 Apr. Reorganized as the Yuzawa Office of the Nagaoka National Road Works Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs.
1949 Apr. Reorganized as the Uono River Drainage Area Sabo Office of the Kanto Regional Construction Bureau, Ministry of Construction
1950 Mar. Reorganized as the Uono River Sabo Branch of the Shinano River Works Office
1952 May. The drainage areas of Nakatsu River and Kiyotsu River, both right bank tributaries of Shinano River, were incorporated in the area of jurisdiction; the Nakatsu River Sabo Branch was established
1953 Apr. The Uono River Sabo Branch and Nakatsu River Sabo Branch were integrated to form the Yuzawa Sabo Works Office
1968 Apr. The Aburuma River Branch was established
1973 Apr. The Survey Division was established
1973 Nov. The new office building was completed
2003 Apr. It is name change to Yuzawa Sabo Office.
